CANNAS
Cannas, you either love them or hate them. We love them. The Generalis hybrids have large 'blousy' flowers and are summer flowering. There are many other cannas, not often seen for sale. They have smaller flowers, an almost year long flowering season and add a subtle flavour to most garden styles. These are the ones we mainly sell.
Cannas are easy to care for, requiring a groom every now and then to keep them looking good. The flower is the terminal bud of that stem. When the flower has finished, cut the stem at ground level. With the Generalis (normal) cannas this is done in winter when all the flowers have finished, the whole plant should be cut down. In cold areas the frost will do this. With the unusual, smaller flowered cannas, which flower throughout the year, just remove the spent stems. This encourages new stem growth.
